Nightshades and Fibromyalgia.

not my photo. image googled from around the web.

Just when I was comfortable with my allergy friendly lifestyle, something happened to shake it up a bit.

I have been under the weather with fibromyalgia for a while now, and this winter seems to be really hard on me. Being in pain every day is not something I look forward to.

Anyway, when at the chiropractor the other day he ask how I was feeling. I had missed an appointment due to not feeling well and then was an hour late to this one because I couldn't get out of bed on time.  I told him truthfully that this winter has been really hard on me.

He asked me what I ate. I eat so healthy that I didn't think that there could be a single thing wrong with how I eat.
When I mentioned I eat a lot of tomatoes, he mentioned nightshades.

It turns out that some people have issues with nightshade vegetables. These are white potatoes, bell peppers, tomatoes, and eggplant. I love all of these but especially bell pepper and tomatoes. Come to find out I eat a TON of bell peppers and tomatoes.
The reason some people have an issue with these is because they contain solanine, and some people are sensitive to it.

This is different than a food allergy though. Provided my sensitivity isn't extreme, I could still have a tomato or bell pepper here or there, but it would be very few and far between. I would have to be smart about it. Yay for not completely giving up spaghetti night!

We don't know anything for sure, I have to completely eliminate these foods from my diet for a few weeks, and then try to add them back in, and see how my body reacts. If I don't have a problem with them, then it was worth a shot. But if I do, it could make a huge difference in my health.

Do you know anyone with issues with nightshades?
What is your experience?
How did you figure it out?

What recipes can you all share?

I would love to hear what you have to say as I could use a little help with my meal plans the next couple of weeks.

Keep in mind I am gluten free, dairy free/casein free, and I don't eat sugar.

Be Happy Healthy & Strong,

Lolli
