Hello 3rd Trimester!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I cannot believe that I am 27 weeks pregnant already, with a healthy Baby Boy!
Baby A is super excited about the arrival of her little brother. There are still so many things to accomplish before he arrives, but we are working on it.
I am happy to announce that I am still weight lifting, running, jump roping, and doing yoga!
I completed the last workout of the Burn Circuit for ChaLean Extreme today & starting on the Push Circuit Monday!
So far I do yoga daily, weight lifting 3 days a week (10,15,20 lb dumbbells), and cardio 2-4 times a week depending on how I am feeling!
It has made a huge difference! I have gained 15 lbs now and am keeping my muscle tone.

Baby B is in face down position and growing like crazy! I have started to get to the tired phase of pregnancy, but am happy to have many less symptoms this time than I did the first time. It is a wonderful relief to be able to get comfy at night and not be using a giant pregnancy pillow!!

I finished my CCS certification and am now on my SAQ certification for my Master Trainer Program! I will be finishing up the end of August! 1 month before Baby B is due! Perfect timing :)

I don't have a lot of pictures today but I will post some belly pictures for you all soon!

What is "Healthy"? Are you really healthy or are you just "dieting"?

Many people think that they eat " healthy " when in my opinion, it is no where close to healthy.
I don't count drinking soda or eating sugary desserts as healthy.
Yet those on fad diets say they are eating healthy, when in fact they are just as unhealthy as they would be if they didn't go on the "diet".

All soda is unhealthy let alone diet soda. I know a woman who claims to be healthy, yet every other drink in her hand is a diet soda.

I also know a few other people who claim to be healthy, yet they eat sugary cupcakes as dessert, almost every night.

And yet again, a friend who has fast food 3 times a week, yet claims to be healthy.

I am not being hard on these people, for in my opinion they are only starting their journey. They are simply misguided in what the word " healthy" means.

Why are so many people misguided about health?
Because of fad diets, and marketing.

That diet cola or chicken sandwich are marketed to be "healthier alternatives" when in fact they are not much better than if these people ate some deep fried chicken and downed a regular soda.

So what is healthy to me?

I started my journey in January 2007, very misguided like many people. Instead of getting stuck in the fad diets though, I started my journey with small steps and changes.
These changes continued until where I am now.
I didn't get defensive about my flaws in my diet, only stayed optimistic as I knew that each month I was making a new goal to eat healthier & live healthier.

This year my most recent step was to remove ALL refined sugar ( white sugar, brown sugar, molasses, and evaporated cane juice) from my life. Every single drop. I instead chose honey and stevia ( primarily stevia) as my sweeteners for cooking/ baking.
I even went so far this year as to make my own ketchup with stevia instead of sugar. It was delicious, and tasted nearly identical to the one I had bought previously.

Junk food lurks in the most hidden places. Sugar and other additives can be found in simple things like ketchup, pasta sauce, yogurts ( sugar is a HUGE culprit here!), etc.

not my photo. image googled from around the web.
"Healthy" to me is a CLEAN diet that consists of :
  • veggies ( preferably organic)
  • fruits ( preferably organic)
  • lean protein ( chicken, lean turkey, fish)
  • gluten free "grains" ( brown rice, quinoa)
  • beans ( black beans, kidney beans, garbanzo beans, etc)
  • nuts ( raw, unsalted)
  • seeds ( unsalted, plain )
  •  (filtered) water
  • green tea (100% tea, no additives)
  • healthy oils ( coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil... none of that canola crap!)
  • pure seasonings ( ex: oregano, basil, turmeric, etc)
  • anything that grows in the ground on a tree or bush, any poultry or fish ( low mercury).
  • additive free food
  • preservative free food
  • labels with 5 ingredients or less are preferable!
  • only buy things with ingredients I can read
If it has chemicals or artificial colorings it is out! Artificial sweeteners and sugars are out.

Now for me personally I have gluten & casein allergies, meaning I cannot consume wheat, barley, rye, or oats ( not even gf ones for me), milk, cheese, or anything with gluten or dairy derivatives.
This does make it difficult when looking for stir fry sauces, and the like, so I have taken to making those as well.

My first attempt at making a stir fry with homemade sauce was a success :)

This is a HEALTHY diet to me.

There is no room for the traditional cupcake in this diet, nope, not even occasionally.
There is no room for chinese takeout. Msg is not allowed.

However, I have learned to make new versions of my favorite meals! 100% clean!!

You can do it too. It takes time, dedication, creativity, and perserverance.

It has taken me these last 5 years to get to where I am today, and it feels wonderful.
I am still not done making changes in my life.

You will see in my recipe section, various recipes from through out my journey, some of them from before I gave up sugar, and others from the new me. There should be recipes for people on various paths on their journey on my site. Take a look around!

I am planning on adding more clean foods content, and sharing more about my healthy journey with you!

Are you on a healthy journey?
What is "healthy" to you?

We all start somewhere, and I know there are people out there who probably eat even cleaner than what I described ( raw foodists for example...I applaud you by the way).

We are all on a journey, just don't forget to  keep taking yours to the next level.

Healing Diastasis Recti (Videos)

I hope this helps some mamas!

I recently did a self test for diastasis after watching an interview with Dr. Tupler ( inventor of the Tupler Technique).

These are some of the things I am going to start doing to work on my diastasis ( the videos below).

I have a 1 finger separation in the top, 1 1/2 (almost 2 in middle) and 1 1/2 separation in the bottom.

It is no surprise  to me that I have this, I only wish that I had discovered this sooner as I have been battling the mommy pouch due to this. It seemed no matter how many crunches & ab exercises I did, my belly looked worse instead of better.

Here are some videos I found helpful:

Here is the book I am reading online right now:

It seems that there are many ways to work on the diastasis. From all the reading and video watching I did today, I did discover that it was mentioned multiple times not to do "opening exercises" in yoga, the Pilates 100, or crunches ( including cross crunches) as these exercises would open up the existing problem further.

I hope that this helps someone.
Today is day 1 for me on starting to work on my diastasis, hopefully it gets better.

Be Happy Healthy & Strong,

Home Workout Equipment That I Love!

Working out at home with videos can get boring after a while, especially if you are someone who knows what they are doing.

Here are some ideas for home workout equipment that can be used in a small home or apartment! Almost all of these can be stored under the bed if needed!

1. Mini Stepper for cardio. I love mine. It is almost the same, only it's red & a different brand name. But it has all the same features and was about the same price! Get the benefits of a stepper without taking up all the space. Especially great if you don't have a gym membership &  great if the weather doesn't permit a long walk.

Approx. $40-60 price range depending on brand/store

Target @ $49.50

2. Free Weights! These are great for building muscle!! I like to have a variety of different dumbbells in my home. 5 lbs, 10 lbs, 15 lbs, and 20 lbs are all great  sizes to keep around! There are lots of different dumbbells with  different price points, but I have some of the Reebok ones and I love them.

3. Weight lifting Gloves are also great!  I like to lift until my muscles are sore, not until my hands are sore, and hands get sore quick without gloves! Plus they help if you are someone who gets slippery hands when lifting.

There are many different brands to try. find what's best for you!

Target  @ $12.59

4.  Stability Balls, I love my stability ball for crunches & angled chest presses and flyes. There are so many uses for a balance ball!  I have seen them in many stores, including Walmart, Kmart, Target, etc. Prices typically ranging from $20-30.

  GoFit 75cm Professional Stability Ball

5. A great free tool for those wanting to work out with their own routine and not video, I like the bodbuilding.com "Your Best Body" plan. I think it's great for those who don't know how to build a workout routine, but aren't into workout videos.

6. Pull Up Bar, these are great for getting in pull ups in a variety of grips, but also for doing leg lifts if you have the ab straps.

Premium Portable Gym Doorway Chin-up Pull-Up Bar perfect for any home exercise program or physical therapy
I have seen these @ $24 and up

7. If you are a workout video person, I absolutely love ChaLean Extreme. In my opinion it's the best workout video system I have tried.

Plus 5 FREE Gifts Worth $120.00!

These are just what I have used at home when I am I not at the gym. I love to change things up and always am looking for new fitness products to try. Actually the Journey Gym looks pretty cool and I would love to try that sometime.

What do you like to use when you workout at home?
Is there something you would add to this list?
